Voices of Democracy, Volume 10

Voices of Democracy, Volume 10

Voices of Democracy (VOD), the premier online curriculum resource for
the study of American public address, is pleased to announce publication
of Volume 10 of its scholarly journal.  The volume includes three
critical essays on important speeches in U.S. history: (1) Karrin Vasby
Anderson (Colorado State University) on Hillary Clinton's 2010 speech on
human trafficking; (2) Allison Prasch (University of Minnesota) on
Ronald Reagan's speeches commemorating the 40th anniversary of D-Day in
1984; and (3) Dominic Manthey (Penn State University) on Mario Savio's
celebrated speech at the University of California at Berkeley in 1964,
"An End to History."   The direct link to the new volume is:

VOD has recently undergone a major upgrade and expansion, including a
more user-friendly design and a growing collection of lesson plans for
Grade 8-12 teachers.  Originally funded by a grant from the National
Endowment for the Humanities, VOD features authenticated speech texts,
audio/visual materials, critical essays, and a variety of other teaching
resources.  As a pioneering digital humanities site, VOD has been
recognized by EDSITEment (http://edsitement.neh.gov/) as among the best
educational resources on the web, and it now attracts more than 1000
visitors daily.  VOD is co-directed by J. Michael Hogan, the Edwin Erle
Sparks Professor of Rhetoric at Penn State University, and Shawn J.
Parry-Giles, professor of communication studies and director of the
Center for Political Communication and Civic Leadership at the
University of Maryland.
