Rhetorical Ontology Building at the Computational Rhetoric Workshop
Still at the Computational Rhetoric Workshop.
Chrysanne DiMarco is talking about "Using OWL for Rhetorical Ontology Building." DeMarco has been working on computational approaches to style for two decades (claiming that "The problem of style is highly relevant to computational linguistics, but current systems deal only superficially, if at all, with subtle but significant nuances of language" in Computational Linguistics). She has argued that "'To construct a full computational theory of rhetoric, we will need to first develop complete formalizations of the lexical and semantic aspects of style, and then integrate these representations with our current syntactic grammar. The syntactic theory formalizes some significant aspects of style and rhetoric" here.
