Department of English: Assistant/Associate Professor
Director of Writing Program
POSITION:
Probationary tenure-track faculty Assistant Professor or Associate Professor position in the English Department beginning August 21, 2017.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate will direct the Universitys Blugold Seminar in Critical Reading and Writing (for a description of the program and courses, see: http://www.uwec.edu/Blugoldseminar/index.htm); coordinate and develop WAC, WID, and related campus-wide initiatives; and teach courses in the English Department.
Essential duties include supervising and working with professional staff; training and mentoring faculty and staff who teach in the Blugold Seminar program; working across the University to promote the Blugold Seminar and attract faculty involvement; coordinating with the Center for Writing Excellence and McIntyre Library; and undertaking short- and long-term program assessment. The successful candidate will have a 50% administrative appointment for these duties, and will in addition teach 5-8 credits each semester, including courses in the Blugold Seminar and in other areas of English including the MA program, related to their areas of specialization. All department members participate in research and scholarly activities and engage in service to the department, college, and university.

- Earned doctorate in Rhetoric and Composition or closely related field. Candidates who are ABD will be considered, but all requirements for the doctoral degree must be completed by August 21, 2017.
- The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of a record of excellence in teaching writing at the college level, have experience in writing program administration, in addition to strong scholarship or scholarly potential.
- Scholarly activity in teaching writing or administering writing programs or active involvement in writing program community at the regional and/or national level;
- Experience with WAC, WID, or related campus-wide writing initiatives;
- Experience with writing program assessment;
- Additional areas of scholarly interest or research including basic writing, digital media, or cultural rhetorics (including race, ethnicity, gender, and/or LGBTQ);
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
