Dear Colleagues,
Submissions are currently being accepted for an anthology of Appalachian ecocriticism. The Appalachian region has largely been underrepresented in ecocritical studies, and this unique volume will represent Appalachian literature and its environment to the community of ecocritics and, more broadly, the scholarly community as a whole.
Critical investigations into the ways in which Appalachian nature are portrayed in text is, of course, the central theme of the volume. However, additional intersections may include, but are not limited to, the following:
-Accessibility/Disability and the environment
-Animal studies
-Mountaintop removal
-Significance of water/Water quality
-Fracking
-Biodiversity
-Fossil fuel and alternative energy industries
-Environmental disasters (either natural or manmade)
-Plant life/ Plant studies
-Natural history
-Air quality
-Activism
-"Sense of Place"
-Manmade environment/Post-nature/Anthropocene
-Farming/Living off the land
-Industry and the environment
-Indigenous perspectives of Appalachian nature
-Pastoral/Neopastoral representations
-Portrayals of wilderness

Submission Guidelines
All submissions must be original work and previously unpublished with a maximum of 10,000 words. While proposals are acceptable, the final work must be completed no later than June 30, 2017. Documents should be in .pdf, .doc, or .docx format and emailed to app.anthology@gmail.com
A university press is powerfully interested in this collection.
Kind regards,
Dr. Laura Wright and Jessica Cory
