Communication Quarterly, Special Issue on the Rhetoric of the 2016 U.S. Election, Editors Dr. Sara Drury and Dr. Rebecca Kuehl
Communication Quarterly invites submissions for a special issue on the Rhetoric of the 2016 U.S. Election. This special issue aims to include case studies, critical analyses, and comparisons of the public discourse of the 2016 general elections in the United States, including local, state, and national elections. While the special issue welcomes critical analyses, we especially encourage submissions that foster dialogue and encourage understanding between the diverse yet often contested stakeholders of the 2016 election. Essays may examine case studies of campaign rhetoric, or may analyze portions of the fuller rhetorical field of the 2016 general election, in the United States. Submissions utilizing a variety of rhetorical methods are encouraged, such as rhetorical criticism of public discourse and media, critical/cultural studies, argumentation theory, rhetorical field methods, etc.
Possible topics include, but are not limited to:
- Public address
- Media and social media
- Social movements
- Gender and sexuality
- Argumentation
- Deliberative rhetoric
- Visual rhetoric
- Rhetorical circulation
- Debates, particularly in state or local elections
- Populism and identity
- Rhetoric and citizenship
- Presidential rhetoric
- Congressional rhetoric
- International rhetoric about the 2016 campaign
Questions may be directed to Sara Drury, drurys@wabash.edu or Rebecca Kuehl, rebecca.kuehl@sdstate.edu, guest co-editors for the special issue.
